Interested in Joining WISP as a Mentee?

For over twenty years, the Women In Science Program (WISP) have been striving to build a cohort of women, non-binary gender and male advocates by offering support and a sense of belonging while addressing issues of isolation in the male dominated field of STEM. Additionally, WISP promotes the development of personal and professional identities, facilitates networking and connections and aids in persistence towards earning an undergraduate degree in science from Purdue University.
The WISP Learning Community:
• builds a supportive community of students interested in science, allowing for the formation of natural study groups, and eliminating the isolation first-year female students may face.
• partners each first-year student with an upper-class mentor enrolled in the College of Science.
• holds monthly programs which address topics of interest in science and life skills and allow for networking among students, staff, faculty and invited guests from academia, alumnae, and industry.
• sponsors a tutoring program, together with the College of Engineering, for all students enrolled in first year courses, where Honors science tutors serve as models of persistence.

| With June comes the Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere, a significant period of the year for both ecology and society. Join SFS Chile in the rugged landscape of Southern Patagonia, at 51 °S latitude, for a deeply interdisciplinary exploration of how ecology and society intertwine to usher in the new season. Travel to the world-famous Torres del Paine National Park to study how terrestrial and freshwater plants and animals have adapted to meet this yearly challenge in the land of glaciers. Celebrate the indigenous New Year on the night of the Winter Solstice and learn how life ways adapt to the extreme southern environment. Take time to explore the various facets of winter at the southern end of the Americas.*Spend three days in Torres del Paine National Park, where you’ll see guanacos, flightless ñandús, and traverse the broadleaf evergreen forests of coigue and canelo trees near the ice wall of the Grey Glacier.

Enhance Your Career Portfolio:
Learn Beyond the Classroom

- It is time to update your Learning Beyond the Classroom portfolio. For instance, did you participate in a first year seminar? …a learning community? Were you a T.A.? Did you perform community service? You have done lots of experiential learning, so take some time and submit reports on activities already completed.
- May 2023 graduates: remember that you must have completed the program by the end of January 2023 in order to earn the LBC certificate.
- If you have submitted a report, check and see if you have been asked to supply more information. If you find that you have received “0” points on a report,see the comments section for an explanation. If requested, resubmit your report with the required information so that your LBC points can be updated.
- Do you need financial support to pursue an experiential learning activity? Are you going to a conference? Studying abroad? Doing community service? Apply for an LBC grant. For details on the application process look here.
